Happy Birthday, Iggy!

Today is the 59th birthday of one Mr. James Newell Osterburg, better known to the punk world as Iggy Pop, the godfather of punk.

Iggy is currently in Florida, but if you think he's looking for a retirement community, you're sorely mistaken. He has reunited with his old band the Stooges and they are recording an album. This album, the first for Iggy and the Stooges since 1973, is being produced for the most by Steve Albini, with Jack White of the White Stripes helping out on a few tracks.

Following the album's release next year, Iggy and the Stooges will be touring, and I highly recommend you check them out. I caught them in Detroit a few years ago, and it's pretty obvious these guys show no signs of slowing down.

Sharing his birthday is Robert Smith of The Cure, who is 47 today. Odds are, they will not be celebrating together. I don't know this to be a fact, it's just a hunch.
