The Buzzcocks, The Shelter, Detroit, July 14, 2006
When a legendary band goes on tour, a band that has been around for 20 or 30 years, you have to be a bit apprehensive. What are you in for? Will it simply be a tired, pathetic money grab, where the band half-heartedly cranks out some old songs and calls it a night, leaving you poor and angry (Sisters of Mercy, I'm looking at you!). Will it be a valiant effort put in by a band that's genuinely trying but doesn't have it anymore? While these are valid concerns, both of those are bullets that the Buzzcocks easily dodged.
At the Buzzcocks' Detroit show, fans were treated to an energetic set that included old and new material, and while the mileage may be adding up, they played with the energy of youngsters. It was solid, with a great opening set by the Strays to make the night even better.
