MP3 Artist Of The Week: The Orbitsuns
We're just getting over a record-breaking heatwave here in Detroit (and much of the rest of the country as well), and while it's nice to be comfortable again, it makes you realize that we're nearing the end of another summer. In an effort to try to hold onto the feeling of those sticky summer nights for just a bit longer, I give you the Orbitsuns.
The Orbitsuns are fronted by Vinnie Dombrowski, better known as the lead singer of the rock band Sponge (the band that brought you "Molly"), but their sound is a bit removed from Sponge's radio-friendly rock. They play a twisted version of Detroit cowpunk that blends roots rock with a solid dose of punk attitude.
Vinnie and company are notorious for their sweaty, high-energy live shows, chock full of gritty dirty rock with a Southern twang and a Motor City Feel. It's kind of like a late-night road trip to Kentucky from Detroit on a steamy night, with the windows down and the radio up.
Check out these songs by the Orbitsuns; it's the perfect music for a last bit of summertime hootin', hollerin' and haulin' ass:
- Dollars and Dice (MP3)
- What Road Are You On? (MP3)
- Haul Ass (MP3)
What do you think of this week's MP3s? Let us hear about it!
Or do you want to suggest a favorite band for MP3 of the week? Send me an email! I'd love to hear your ideas.
