An Interview With Mike Vallely

Tuesday August 15, 2006

Mike Vallely is a guy who defines a bunch of terms. The first is old school; for quite some time, he has been a solid figure in both the skateboarding and punk rock scenes. The second is hardcore; this reflects both his skating and the music he plays. A third term would be DIY; his records are released under the Mike V INC. umbrella.

Those three terms could be simply combined to form one word, but since it would be a weird word like "OSHaDI", I'll simply say that those three terms combine to be "punk rock".

Mike Vallely's latest project is called Revolution Mother, and they are pretty hardcore. What else would you expect from a guy who once did guest vocals with Black Flag, and unabashedly admits he's "no crooner"?

I connected with Mike Vallely while he was on the road supporting his debut EP, Enjoy The Ride. He was a very candid guy who had a lot to say about music and skateboarding, and how they go together.
