Golem - Fresh Off Boat

Wednesday August 23, 2006

Regular readers of this site will be aware of my affinity for Gogol Bordello and their innovative style of Gypsy punk. If you took my advice and checked them out, pay attention now: check out Golem as well. And if you didn't, check out Golem right now anyway.

On Fresh Off Boat this six-piece group blends Eastern European and Slavic music with traditional Jewish Klezmer, and then packs in a dose of folksy punk to create the sound that sweaty nights of dancing are made of. The album is helped even further by guest vocals from Amanda Palmer of the Dresden Dolls, who brings her recognizable voice to one of the rare instances of English on the album.
