Joan Jett and Cadillac: A Lifelong Love Affair

Joan Jett appears to be one of the new faces helping to sell Cadillacs. But before anyone dare try to call it a sellout (a la Iggy Pop's "Lust For Life" on the Carnival Cruiselines commercials), you should know she and the Caddy go way back, and it's not as odd as it may seem at first.
When Joan Jett began her solo career, she was turned down by every major record label. So Joan and business/songwriting partner and producer Kenny Laguna set out to form their own record company, manufacturing albums and selling them out of the trunk of Kenny's 1976 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. The Caddy served as a touring vehicle for the band and the first 'office' of their burgeoning company. Blackheart Records was born.
Check out this short film that talks a bit about those days.
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts's new video for "Change The World" is on the Cadillac Web site now too. The product placement is not too obnoxious, even.
You know, aside from the fact that it's on the the Cadillac Web site.
I personally know for a fact that Joan Jett is a huge fan of Caddies. When I spoke with her at the Warped Tour, and talk turned to cars (it always does in Detroit), she spoke then about how much she loved Cadillacs. Here's to hoping that Cadillac gave her a new one as part of this whole deal.
