Another Warped Tour was winded down and taken summer with it. In retrospect, it wasn’t exactly what I would have wanted. It had a bit too much screamo, not enough bands that really scream punk rock.
There were still some great bands on the tour. Jim Lindberg and Pennywise rolled through the entire tour, as did Revolution Mother, The Vincent Black Shadow and Bad Religion. And while they didn’t do the whole thing, Alkaline Trio, Mustard Plug and Flogging Molly also put in some decent chunks of time, but probably the people who really scored were the ones who managed to catch the shows between June 29 and July 1, when old-school heroes the Circle Jerks and The Vandals both put in performances.
Warped tour founder Kevin Lyman posted his thoughts on this year’s tour, and is asking for suggestions for next year (you can read it here). Personally, I’d like to see more old schoolers, I’m thinking of years past when I saw The Vandals, NOFX and a host of others. Past great moments have not been all old school either. Ice T was another great Warped Tour moment from the past, as were the Lunachicks and (with probably the best Warped Tour performance I’ve seen) Andrew WK.
But, as I wrap up my reminiscing, it’s time for yours. Who did you see this year that blew you away? Or that you hated?
While you’re thinking about that, check out this gallery of Warped Tour photos from the July 23 date in Charlotte, NC. They were taken by Brendon Sharpe of Brendon Sharpe Photgraphy. He did a great job capturing the feeling of the 13th year of this massive outdoor festival.
