Wednesday Night Heroes in Contention for the Hockey Night in Canada Jingle Contest
Here in Detroit, hockey is a big deal. We are, after all Hockeytown, and all also the current home of the Stanley Cup. So when Hockey Night in Canada announces that they’re hosting a call for entries to write a new jingle for the show, it’s something we notice.
The contest got doubly noticed here when I found out that one of the jingles in contention was written by none other than Edmonton street punks, The Wednesday Night Heroes, who've offered up a tune called “Our Night (Hockey Night!)" for consideration.
Help get them the spot they deserve, with their (as always) fist-pumping anthem opening up this season’s Hockey Night in Canada shows. It’s a good thing for both punk rock and hockey, two things more alike than you realize. And it will prevent something lame from becoming the jingle. Even if you don’t watch the show, I do, and you don’t want me to have to hear a lame opener when there is the possibility to hear an opener that is, as the Heroes say, “just what the rocker ordered!”
