Malcolm McLaren Implicates Son in the Great Rock and Roll Clothing Swindle

About a month ago, we reported on a fashion scandal regarding British artist Damien Hirst, who’d paid $160,000 for a collection of clothing reported to be from former Sex Pistols manager Malcocolm McLaren’s 1970’s clothing shop. McLaren had seen the story and contacted Hirst to tell him he’d been duped, and the dealer of the clothing stood by the authenticity of the pieces.
Now, as further details emerge in the situation, it appears that McLaren is responsible for the swindle, at least genetically.
This week, McLaren accused his son, Joe Corre - the man behind the Agent Provocateur lingerie label, of creating the imitation pieces to help launch his label, possibly going so far as to use the original labels from the ’70.
Corre denies making pieces intended to fool anyone, but even so is unsympathetic toward Hirst getting taken. From the story:
He decided to buy some punk rock because he didn't have any in the first place and he got punked.
Really, I’m having a hard time arguing that. Spending that much on clothes, regardless of their punk history, isn’t very punk rock.
