It's no secret that when it comes to holiday music, you get a lot more Christmas songs than Chanukah songs. That's why, when seeking out a Chanukah song to record, Aussie punks Yidcore (an all-Jewish punk band that plays covers of classic and contemporary Jewish songs) approached Adam Sandler to record a cover of his "Chanukah Song."
He threatened to sue.
As a result, the band recorded a tune called "Why Won't Adam Sandler Let Us Do His Song?" You can hear and download it here.
Well, it seems that Sandler isn't opposed to bands covering the song, he's just opposed to certain bands covering the song. Evidently, Neil Diamond is one of the chosen few he'll let cover the tune.
The full story on Neil's cover is here.
Seriously, I thought it was low when he turned down Yidcore, but I think he's taking about 20 steps down on the coolness meter by not permitting them, and then allowing Uncle Neil to do so.
Seriously, Mr. Sandler, why won't you let Yidcore play your song?
