She's been the queen of the punk cabaret, at the forefront of the punk uke revolution and the instigator of international incidents. Now, with her new recording fronting the Grand Theft Orchestra, Amanda Palmer is on her way to being a real-live rock star.
In the four years since breaking from a major label, Palmer has been writing and assembling the perfect band. Now, with the Grand Theft Orchestra, she is poised to launch something that's also a culminating testament to her acumen as an independent musician taking hold of DIY in its true from.
Using Twitter, Palmer has amassed a following, and using Kickstarter she found out how much they truly support her. With just eight days to go, her crowdsourced efforts to fund her new release, an accompanying book and a tour have been met with amazing success. So far, over $800,000 have been raised, already granting her legendary status in the world of DIY and independent music.

Amanda Palmer and the Grand Theft Orchestra - "Do It With a Rockstar" (MP3)
If it's any indication of the new record, this one will be big. When it comes out, you'll be able to order it as a digital download, but if you want to get your hands on a real-live vinyl or CD version, you'll have to kick in on the Kickstarter campaign. You can get on board here, where options not only include CD and vinyl versions (for $25 and $50, respectively), but go all the way up to the band playing your house party (for $5,000) or hanging out for dinner or a photo shoot ($10,000). It might seem like a steep price for the big stuff, but $1 will get you on board at the lowest level.
