Like most people my age, Sesame Street was prominent feature in my formative years and big part of my early education. With Jim Henson's creations, I learned my alphabet, counting and even a bit of Spanish. Eventually I grew out of it, and traded in my Cookie Monster for guttural voiced singers who sounded like Cookie Monster.
As a parent, I'm finding that I revisiting Sesame Street, which is still a thriving neighborhood after all these years. And I'm finding that I'm not the only one; a lot of punk and indie musicians have also made their way back, performing new versions of classic songs alongside Elmo and his pals.
The new versions supply a familiar feel, and my daughter really gets into them to. Here are some of our favorites:
