RC: Your first album, Gutpunch, has a noticeably different sound than the latest. Where did the progression come from? How much of that was your natural progression as a band and how much was influenced by Joan Jett?

BC: It was all progression of the band. A Beat Missing... was written before we went to New York to do the album.

The major reason for the difference in sound was time. Gutpunch came out in 2002. There was three years of writing and also member changes. If anything, we were becoming the band we wanted to be.

Not that we wouldn't have accepted song writing input from Joan, she just didn't take that role.

RC: Which came first, The Vacancies' song "Radio Revolution", or Joan Jett's "Radio Revolution" show?

BC: The song inspired the title of Joan's show on the Underground Garage.

RC: What's next for the Vacancies?

BC: We are halfway into another album for Blackheart and are shooting for a fall release. I think we are going out on the road again in the fall with The Blackhearts. Basically we will continue working hard until it's no longer possible. Once this tour is over, all focus will be on our new album.

RC: Any closing thoughts?

BC: Thanks for giving a s**t about what we are doing. Support your local music!
