Definition: Originating in the U.K. in the late '70s, Oi! music (also known as streetpunk and street punk) is the punk music sound of the blue-collar working class. Originally a sound that helped promote punk and skinhead unity, the music generated controversy when it became associated with the Nationalist (racist skinhead) movement.
In addition to a similar sound, Oi! bands also sing a bout blue-collar issues, and frequently about labor organization and general unity. The sound is very prevalent among Boston punk bands.
