Think of all the stuff you know about emo for a second, like the annoying whiny vocals, those un-catchy Fall Out Boy song titles ("There's Two "R's" In Sorry but One "R" In Whore") and of course the unbelievably overused or lame lyrics about how their lover broke up with them ("My girlfriend broke up with me over a Ritz cracker"). Is this perking your interest?
These Guys Make Up An Emo Record
If it is, and you're wondering who to go to for your next fix, you might want to look to Southern California's A Heartwell Ending. These guys are at times too reminiscent of Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Yellowcard and Fall Out Boy, with plenty more of not their own sound thrown in. If you've ever wanted to subject yourself to less originality and passion, then A Heartwell Ending is undeniably your new favorite band.
Lyrically they're a cross between every emo band seen on MTV and MTV2. The albums lyrics are just so typical of every emo band today, thus the lines "Can you see me fading out of the light/ Every bit of it hurts/ Every one of her words/ She seems so sweet so useless", but what's even worse is singer Justin Allen's approach. There's just no life or vibrancy behind his words and it's all revealed to us in Trust Us, We Lie.
A Heartwell Ending recorded this album back in 2005 with Ryan Baker (The Sounds of Animals Fighting and LoveHateHero) and the overall effect is like a bad hangover. The melodies are that of conventional emo, but so overpolished and drained of stiff upper-lip resilience that it has no right to litter the shelves of record stores.
Even So, It's Gonna Aell
So Trust Us We Lie is not an album that tries to reinvent the emo wheel, or even to improve it. In truth, it's not an album that does a whole lot except sound every bit like another Fall Out Boy out there. But if you get a kick out of the everyday, something that's not unique or fresh, then this album will be essential to your "scene" collection.
