MP3 Artist Of The Week - Running From Johnny
While the height of the Riot Grrrl movement may have seen its day in the sun, it's nice to know there are still some strongholds of grrrl-powered punk rock left in the world. One such bastion is Running From Johnny.
This foursome from Indianapolis dumps a healthy amount of punk riffs on top of solid stripped-down rock and comes up with music that is fun, fast and powerful.
At this point they are putting together a demo, a few tracks of which are available for download, but this is a definite band to pay attention to. Their sound is solid enough that you'll hopefully be hearing a lot more of them soon. And, if you're on a label... SIGN THESE GRRRLS! They rock.
Check out these songs by the Running From Johnny; it's proof that female-powered punk rock is alive and kicking in the underground:
- Psycho Jill (MP3)
- Hey Mister (MP3)
- Saturday Night (MP3)
For further updates on the upcoming adventures of the band, check out Running From Johnny's myspace page.
