Jim Lindberg - Punk Rock Dad
Let's face it - punk rock ain't getting any younger. Despite its reputation for being the music of the bold, defiant youth, there are a lot of old punks and old punk bands out there. As punk rock gets older, there are new issues that face punks, things that don't seem very punk. There are mortgages, kids and all the other things that go with reaching middle age.
Punks writing about being parents isn't exactly new; for a while I've been a big fan of "My Mother Wears Combat Boots", a column in Maximumrocknroll by Jessica Mills of Citizen Fish, where she talks about the trials and tribulations of being a punk rock momma. Now it's time for dads to have their say.
In Punk Rock Dad, Pennywise frontman Jim Lindberg talks candidly about raising three little girls and playing in a band where he gets paid to behave rather immaturely. It's a hilarious read (I finished it in nearly one sitting), and it's definitely worth reading for any punk fan, whether or not they have children. It's also a no-brainer Father's Day gift for any punk rock dads you may know.
