An interview with Norwood Fisher of Fishbone

This seems to be the year that Fishbone is making a full-blown comeback. (Although as I type that, I hear LL Cool J's infamous line "Don't call it comback. I've been here for years" in my head.) The new album, Still Stuck In Your Throat, is classic Fishbone, full of the ska, punk and metal this frenzied bunch of guys is known for.
Although many of the old guard is gone from the band, two members remain. I connected with one of the two original members, bassist Norwood Fisher. We talked about a whole bunch of things, from the history of the band to the new album, and what it's like to work with the new lineup (which includes legendary Suicidal Tendencies guitarist Rocky George).
It was a really great interview. In addition to being eloquent and entertaining, Fisher was very educational, schooling me on Annette Funicello and her unlikely contribution to American ska culture. That alone is worth the price of admission.

Norwood has a huge ego for being such a limited bass player. He is often rude, and just wants to scam on girls. You’ll find his chump ass in Venice at the Brig slapping his bass and stroking his dreaded goatee; too cool for school. Having hung out with his band mates it was apparent that Angelo is the way cooler, more humble individual. He is nice and will talk to most people without the negative attitude that Norwood Fisher has repeatedly shown throughout the years. Just a heads up on this E major funk slapping jerk.
